Thanks again for visiting my blog. As you may have seen, I am a “worried human.” I am also an avid surfer, hiker, and graduate student in Oceanography. My undergraduate degree is in Geology. My past research has looked at how naturally occurring radionuclides can be used to trace suspended sediment and measure deposition rates. I have more recently explored how acoustic devices (sonars) can be used to remotely estimate seafloor sediment properties. This becomes useful in models predicting nutrient fluxes and sediment transport. I believe my greatest discovery from nearly 7 years of classes and research in the earth sciences is that all the puzzles pieces regarding our (human’s) effects on our world are there, they just need to be put together. And when they are, the picture is clear, we are not living even close to sustainable lives. Worse yet, we in the industrialized nations are hogging limited resources that are not ours in the first place. I do not blame people who do not have these same views, largely because I have found that relatively few people have the full picture in front of them. It is not a simple puzzle and it has taken me quite some time and consideration to not only see, but accept what we are truly doing. I hope though, that by beginning to lead a life that is more sustainable and sharing big picture as I have come to see it, other people may start to put the pieces together also.
Follow your bliss. Love and be loved.
